Who We Are

A major focus of the Association is managing the Downer Community Centre. The Downer Community Association was formed in 1985 (incorporated in 1987) to represent the interests of Downer residents on issues which affect our suburb and surrounding areas. These include local facilities, planning and traffic, development applications, changes to parks and streets, and issues which affect local communities, such as Downer Preschool and the Goodwin independent living development. In February 2020, after community consultation, the DCA developed a Downer Vision Statement which articulates to the community, the ACT Government and commercial developers what the Downer community expects in relation to the ongoing development and sustainability of our suburb. This is an ACT Government building, currently leased (month by month!) to the DCA. We hope to once again be granted a five year lease. The DCA rents rooms in the Centre to a large number of community groups. Rents are kept as low as possible to assist groups with limited funds to obtain facilities for their activities.
